DiscourseNet boasts a diverse and vibrant community, which regularly organises a variety of cross-disciplinary events on empirical research, theoretical and philosophical questions, and methodological issues in discourse studies. Each of these events has its own call for papers. To attend one of these events, you will have to become a member of DiscourseNet.
- Its largest and most visible event is its Congress, which has room for at least 200 presentations, and which takes place every two years. The sixth edition of our Congress will take place in Brussels in 2025, the 2026 edition (co-organised with ALED) will place in Plata Del Mar, Mexico.
- Organisers of the DiscourseNet Congress are typically prominent and active members of the DiscourseNet community who have attended several DiscourseNet events in the past, and who are or have been members of the DiscourseNet board
- Planning for the DiscourseNet Congress usually starts two years ahead of time, with a save-the-date about two years and a CfP about one year before the actual event
- The Congress typically addresses itself to the entire field of discourse studies, and welcomes contributions from all the disciplines into which this course studies extends
- Roughly two times a year, DiscourseNet organises smaller conferences with about twenty to one-hundred participants. Our most recent conferences took place in Budapest and Giessen.
- Organisers of DiscourseNet conference have usually attended one or more DiscourseNet events in the past, but they are not necessarily well- established members of the community. Organising a DiscourseNet conference is a great way to become a part of our community while exploring and discovering synergies between your research domain and the broader field of discourse studies
- Planning for a DiscourseNet conference usually starts about one year ahead of time, with a CfP about six months before the actual event
- These conferences usually have a more specific and targeted angle than the Congress, and focus on a particular topic, problem, or approach. Nevertheless, they usually try to propose a cross-disciplinary approach that invites contributions from across the social sciences and humanities
- DiscourseNet also sporadically organises ad hoc events.
- These events can take a variety of different forms and formats, including but not limited to online and offline workshops, unconferencing sessions, doctoral schools, symposia, book launches,…

These events are typically organised by members of DiscourseNet. However, as DiscourseNet aims to be a non-hierarcical association with bottom-up structures, it is possible for people who are not (yet) active members of the association to organise events under the DiscourseNet banner. The association provides active support, feedback, and input to the local organisers of all DiscourseNet congresses, conferences, and ad hoc events
Regardless of whether you are currently a member of DiscourseNet, if you would be interested in organising one of the events above, or if you'd like more information about these events, get in touch with us!
