Report on Antisemitism in UK, France and Germany and Call to Cooperation and Discussion

Submitted by Jan Krasni on Wed, 08/18/2021 - 09:35

Dear Friends,

Dear Colleagues,

The research project “Decoding Antisemitism” at the Centre for Research on Antisemitism at TU Berlin and King’s College London investigates the extent and forms of antisemitic hate speech on websites in Great Britain, France and Germany. The focus is not on radicalised milieus, but on the communication on social platforms and media outlets within the political mainstream. In this respect, the project sees itself as an early warning system for broad societal shifts, and aims to sensitise political groups and civil societies to them.

We are pleased to present you the second project-related discourse report. You can now find the PDF files in English, French and German on our website: https://decoding-antisemitism.eu.

Over the past three months, we have been examining debates on news websites and social media platforms in the UK, France and Germany, including reactions to the recent escalation of the Arab-Israeli conflict in May 2021. In the next phase of the project, our findings will be used to train artificial intelligence for automatic recognition of the specific linguistic traits. In that stage, an algorithm will learn to mimic the application of expert knowledge in order to detect antisemitic speech in a context-sensitive way.

If you would like to receive news about our project and be notified about the next discourse reports, please send an email to: news@decoding-antisemitism.eu. Also, if you would like to get in contact with us, and/or you are interested in cooperation, please do not hesitate to write us. We would be very happy to get into a constructive discussion with friends and colleagues from the DiscourseNet community.
