Austerity is a complex phenomenon with far reaching consequences for economic wellbeing, social justice and political systems. It is not without alternative, but connected to different political projects that can only be understood by looking at both sedimented economic and political mechanisms as well as the meaning giving efforts of human actors. As part of a broader research project on austerity, the workshop will focus on discursive constructions of austerity in the British media. The British case is of particular importance.

This workshop aims to query the fixation on complexity and fragmentation in contemporary research on international organizations and global governance. It takes issue with the strangely determinist, yet largely unchallenged truism that global governance in the 21st century is inevitably racing towards an ever more disintegrated institutional landscape, where large international organizations are becoming invariably more multi-purpose while operating alongside specialized smaller programs and initiatives with similar or overlapping mandates.

En el marco de la interpretación del conflicto y posconflicto en Colombia, los medios de comunicación juegan un papel muy importante en la producción de información y la creación de vínculos y rupturas políticas. Cumplen la función no sólo de transmitir versiones de diferentes realidades pertenecientes a partidos, movimientos sociales, intereses económicos, sino que actúan como partícipes directos en la construcción de la opinión pública y la toma de decisiones, a través de múltiples estrategias discursivas.
