The Department of Slavonic Studies at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena organizes a workshop on the occasion of the Day of Slavic Literacy. Its main focus lies on political discourse in the Slavic speaking countries. Linguistic study of political discourse and its genres has become an important research topic within the pragma-linguistic studies. The nature of political discourse necessarily invites to cross-disciplinary considerations which have been reflected in a great number of empirical and methodical research findings.
Connecting the Dots in a Glocalized World 2016 will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas in the four main disciplines of language, linguistics, literature and translation. As the title for the conference suggests, the aim is to focus on the relationship between global themes and local practices, highlighting the under-examined interactions that occur as globalization takes on negotiated forms in different contexts.
The organising committee of the 2nd International UCM Predoctoral Conference on English Linguistics (UPCEL) are pleased to invite predoctoral students in English Linguistics programmes, including both PhD and Master's degree students, to participate in our second instantiation, which will be held on September 20, 21 and 22, 2017 at the Facultad de Filología, Universidad Complutense de Madrid. This conference is organised by the PhD Programme in English Linguistics of UCM, which has consistently maintained an Excellence Distinction by the Spanish Ministry of Education since 2004.

one-day conference will examine the various ways in which security is
described in the media, with particular reference to the stories
promoted by news organisations when they attempt to support or undermine
the various propositions made to the public about security and the
‘terror threat’.
Our keynote speakers are Professor Lilie Chouliaraki (London School of
Economics), Professor Mark Neocleous (Brunel University) and Dr Zahera
Harb (University of Nottingham).
