DiscourseNet Elections

Dear DiscourseNet members, and DiscourseNet list subscribers,

I’m writing today to let you know about the upcoming election for “DiscourseNet. International Association for Discourse Studies” in late November 2026. We’d love you to be involved. Perhaps you would like to take a more active role in the DiscourseNet Association than you currently have by joining the Board? Perhaps you want to run for President, Treasurer or Secretary? Perhaps you are on this mailing list, but not yet a member and would like to join up to support the association (link below)? Or perhaps you'd simply like to save the date to vote for your favourite candidates.

On our website and below you will find information about how to vote and how to stand for the election. (https://discourseanalysis.net/election2026)

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at this address: elections@discourseanalysis.net

(Felicitas Macgilchrist, Election Officer, DiscourseNet)

DiscourseNet was founded as the International Association for Discourse Studies in Paris in September 2019, with three Representatives (President, Secretary, Treasurer). Elections are now held every three years. The current Representatives were elected in October 2023 with Benno Herzog as President, Aurora Fragonara as Secretary, and Michael Kranert as Treasurer. In 2026, after three years, their term is coming to an end.

All DiscourseNet Association members are invited to participate in the upcoming DiscourseNet (Association) elections:

  1. First, you may propose a team of Representatives that will stand for the election. Your candidate team should comprise three candidates: One each for President, Treasurer and Secretary.
  2. Second, you can express interest in joining the future DiscourseNet Board, which will be appointed by the elected Representatives. The Board also has a term of three years. Previous Board members may, of course, continue in the Board. If you are interested, please contact the running candidate teams directly.
  3. Third, all members are encouraged to check their emails in November for further information on how to vote. The elections will be held online, and hosted on Balotilo. Further information will follow by email to all DiscourseNet members.

All candidate teams of Representatives should send me (Felicitas Macgilchrist, by email to elections@discourseanalysis.net) the information about their team that they wish to share with voting members. If you would like the information to be shared with participants of the ALED-DN2026 conference in August 2026, please email me before 31 July 2026. I am coordinating the election, and will post all candidate teams on the DN election pages.

The final deadline for all candidate teams to submit their intention to run for President, Treasurer and Secretary is 31 August 2026.

The 2026 General Assembly will be held online in late November. The current Board will report on their past term and all candidate teams will be presented. A recording of the key information will be made available online. Voting will start during the General Assembly and run (online) for one week.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any ideas, questions or suggestions you may have about the process or if you wish to run as a candidate team.

We look forward to your participation!

All best

Felicitas

p.s. The charter documents explain the election process in more detail (see https://discourseanalysis.net/DN or https://discourseanalysis.net/sites/default/files/2024-01/DiscourseNet%20founding%20documents_v3_2023.pdf).

All members can take part in the election. Once the running teams have been announced, an invitation will be sent to all members with an individualised link from "Balotilo" (our chosen election tool) to participate in the online election. Members who did not receive an email, are invited to contact elections@discourseanalysis.net so that the designated election official can seek a solution.

This email list includes many more people than are active members of the not-for-profit International Association for Discourse Studies. To support DiscourseNet activities, and become a paying member, feel free to click this link and sign up: https://discourseanalysis.net/DN
