The Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Malaya is pleased to announce the second University of Malaya Conference on Discourse and Society (UMDS 2010).

UMDS 2010: 'Interdiscplinary Approaches to Discourse' aims to bring together scholars from various disciplines to exchange ideas as well as offer new and critical perspectives and directions in research on discourse and society.

Confirmed Keynote Speakers:
Prof Ruth Wodak (University of Lancaster)
Prof Theo Van Leuwen (University of Technology Sydney).

CONFERENCE THEMES:

While we welcome papers (in English or Bahasa Malaysia) from any topic in the field of discourse, we wish to encourage debate from interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives. Areas of interest include:

Discourse and Gender
Discourse and Religion
Discourse and Multimodality
Discourse and the Workplace
Discourse and Politics
Discourse and Globalization
Discourse and the Environment
Discourse and Technology
Intercultural Discourses
Postcolonial Discourses

Other related areas of research in discourse and society

Papers will be 20 minutes in duration with an additional 10 minutes for discussion.

Abstracts (a maximum of 300 words in either English or Bahasa Malaysia) must be sent to umdsabstracts@gmail.com by 14 February 2010

Authors will be notified by 16 April 2010.

Selected papers will be published in an internationally published edited book.
