Agnese Sampietro is an Assistant Professor in Spanish at the Department of European Languages and Literatures of the University Jaume I, Spain. Her research is primarily concerned with the pragmatics of mobile discourse, with a special interest in the Spanish context. Her work draws on a variety of academic traditions in linguistics (such as pragmatics, conversation analysis, sociolinguistics, semiotics, etc.) to examine online language, interaction, and communication. She has written extensively about how emojis are used in Spain, particularly how they are utilised and interpreted in instant messaging interactions. This was also the subject of her dissertation (defended in 2016, at the University of Valencia, Spain). She has published her work in several journals in the field of linguistics, such as Intercultural Pragmatics, Journal of Pragmatics, Visual Communication Quarterly, Language Sciences, and Computers and Education, to name a few.
