Call Deadline: 15-Dec-2012
We are pleased to announce the 3rd International Conference on Historical News Discourse (CHINED III), which follows up the inspiring conferences held in Florence (2004) and Zurich (2007). CHINED III will take place in Rostock, Germany, 18-19 May 2012.
CHINED III will bring together the latest research on historical news discourse. Adopting a broad definition of news discourse, the focus of this conference will be on the dynamics of genre conventions, particularly its triggers, agents and mechanisms. The conference aims at stimulating theoretical and methodological discussions, and also welcomes empirical studies in this field.
This conference, like the two previous ones, adopts a broad perspective on historical news discourse, including prototypical examples such as pamphlets and newspapers as well as documents from various speech situations such as political speeches, proclamations and announcements.
Keynote Speaker:
Irma Taavitsainen, University of Helsinki

- Theoretical aspects, methodological challenges and results of empirical research in historical news discourse
- Multi-feature analysis or research on individual features (including lexical, structural and textual characteristics as well as pragmatic and sociolinguistic aspects)
- Triggers, agents and mechanisms of change in genre conventions
Extended deadline for abstract submission: December 15, 2011
