📢 Call for Chapters: Selling War: Critical Approaches to Propaganda and Disinformation in Political and Media Discourses on Contemporary Conflicts
✍️ Editors:

• Mitchell Thomas Welle (Warsaw University of Technology)
• Ali Basarati (VIZJA University)
War has never been confined to the battlefield. Alongside soldiers and commanders, political and media actors wage a parallel war of words: constructing enemies, legitimising violence and spreading (dis)information to win public support. In short, they sell the war.
We are pleased to invite chapter proposals for this edited volume, which examines how contemporary wars are justified, contested and sold to the public through political and media discourse. We are collecting abstracts to prepare a full book proposal for submission to a renowned international academic publisher. Please find the full CFP attached to this message.
We welcome contributions from critical discourse studies and related fields, including rhetoric and argumentation, corpus-assisted discourse studies, cognitive and multimodal approaches, metaphor and framing analysis, and cross-cultural studies. Analyses of under-examined conflicts and non-Western discourses are particularly welcome.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
🔹 Legitimisation and delegitimisation of war
🔹 Self and Other representation and national identity
🔹 Fear, securitisation and the politics of emergency
🔹 Agency, responsibility and claims of provocation
🔹 Metaphor, narrative and framing in war discourse
🔹 News reporting and the representation of victims
🔹 Social media, AI-generated content and deepfakes
🔹 Fact-checking, counter-propaganda and dissent
🔹 Discourses of ceasefire, negotiation and peace
