The journal Gender and Language is inviting applications for Co-editors of the journal.

Hate speech and abusive behaviour on social media: A cross-cultural perspective (Vernon Press, 2024) examines hate speech and abusive behaviour adopting an innovative cross-cultural perspective. To this end, the book analyses a sample of over 100 scholarly papers originally published in three non-hegemonic languages (Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish) and encompassing 11 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, and Spain).

Call for applications for post-doc fellows, for research on the discursive construction of peace.

Charles University (Czech Republic) will make a limited number of Post-Doctoral Fellowships available, financed through its JUNIOR Fund. Post-Doctoral Fellows will be engaged to work on a project taking no longer than 2 years (24 months) of full-time employment. The scholarship will be around 2400 Euro per month.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the subject of academic research for decades. It is a key issue in the fields of Computer Science and Information Technology, while attracting the attention of other fields due to its pervasive nature. Social studies discussed its economic, social, political, military, and geopolitical implications - particularly regarding China’s ambition to become an AI leading power. Media scholars questioned the ‘intelligence’ of machines (Natale, 2021) and the ‘novelty’ of digital media in general (Balbi, 2022).

The Organising Committee is happy to present the International Conference on “Food x Language: adapting and representing food across media and genres in English and in Spanish” ("Lengua y comida: adaptaciones y representaciones de la comida a través de los medios de comunicación y de los géneros textuales en inglés y español"). The event will take place on 17th and 18th October 2024 in Ca’ Bernardo, one the buildings hosting the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
