DiscourseNet - International Association for Discourse Studies is starting a regular English-language online seminar in Discourse Studies and you may join us for our first session on April 24, 2020, 2-4pm CET. Johannes Angermuller will present the seminar series on behalf of DiscourseNet. We will then have a first talk by

Johannes Angermuller (Open University) and Juliane Reinecke (King's College):
"Science and populism in the coronavirus controversy: the celebrity logics of expert discourses"
April 24, 2020, 1-3pm GMT / 2-4pm CET, please join through Zoom on https://discourseanalysis.net/DN/seminars/OpenDNLondon

Participants will be invited to contribute to the discussion, which will be moderated by Michael Kranert (Southampton), Lílian Carvalho (São Carlos/Open) and Júlio Bonatti (São Carlos/Open).

To join the seminar, participants are invited to register and we recommend you to start the registration as soon as possible.

1) You need to be a registered user on http://www.discourseanalysis.net . If you don't already have one you will need to click in the upper right corner to request a new account. The registration is free but the activation may take one to three days.

2) Once your account is activated, you must make sure you are registered in our group "DiscourseNet London online: discourse, language, society". If you are not a member yet, you will need to go to the group's page and click the button above the logo to join so that you can start to receive the seminar announcements. The moderators of this group are likely not able to answer your questions individually but we will send all relevant information related to this seminar (including programme changes and registration information for online meetings) to all registered participants.

3) Finally, on the day of the conference, you will need to access the Zoom application. We recommend that you install the Zoom software on your computer or phone. We will be waiting for you in a virtual room from 12:45am on, which we will publicize through the group's email list and on the group's website. The room has limited capacity and you may be put on a waiting list once the maximum number is reached. By opening the Zoom link, all participants agree that all contributions will be recorded and made public.

The next online events are scheduled for the 22nd of May, 5th of June and 3rd of July 2020. The programme and the registration modalities can be found on the group's page. Once people can travel again, participants will have the option to come and join us in Open University's facilities in London (Euston). The seminars are open to all. All sessions will be public, recorded and disseminated on social media. By joining the online session, all participants agree to being recorded. All recordings and the latest version of the programme will be posted on the group's page. We also welcome invite everybody to join our new DiscourseNet association: https://discourseanalysis.net/DN .

By creating an open space for intellectual exchange, we hope to contribute to a positive collective experience in these unusual and difficult times.

Johannes, Júlio, Lilian, Michael

PS: This seminar follows the format of our Paris discourse group, which has been running for seven years and recently started to be held online: https://discourseanalysis.net/SEMLANSOC/group .
