PhD projects of the Schaufler Kolleg will approach the guiding theme "Data↔Worlds" from ethical,social, legal, political, socio-economic, historical, media, didactic, linguistic, literary, educational and aesthetic perspectives. Each research associate position is affiliated with the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden. The workplace is located in the lab’s offices. PhD projects will be supervised by one or more members of the TU Dresden according to the PhD degree regulations of the respective faculty at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The PhD supervisor is also the immediate superior. Additional interdisciplinary training and mentoring takes place in the Lab. Within this framework, qualification opportunities and mentorships from scientists from the STEM subjects are offered for the PhD project.
Tasks:
- prepare and execute an independent PhD project within the professional and conceptual framework of the Schaufler Lab
- actively and regularly participate in the graduate school’s training program and on-site Schaufler Lab events
- cooperate with and do research on collaborations with artists of the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden program
- publish and present research results on workshops and conferences
- communicate research findings to a broader audience, such as cultural and educational institutions
- take part in the organization of the graduate school (co-organization of workshops and conferences, contributions to annual reports, participation in program planning, etc.).
In addition to the usual application documents in German or English (letter of motivation, CV, copy of degree certificate, language certificates, where required), please prepare an exposé of no more than 20,000 characters outlining the planned doctoral project with a relevant and original question within the framework of the guiding theme "Data↔Worlds" and explaining its scientific and social relevance as well as a concept for its implementation. Interdisciplinary projects are particularly desired, also as cooperations of humanities and social sciences with STEM subjects. The exposé should also specifically name the possible supervisors at the TU Dresden.
