The analysis of antisemitic discourse on the internet provides insights into the present and future of an ideology of hate which constantly evolves, permeates all social milieus and is currently experiencing a new high – not least due to the specific character of online communication.

Decoding Antisemitism: An AI-driven Study on Hate Speech and Imagery Online is a transnational and interdisciplinary research project that analyses the frequency, content, and linguistic structure of antisemitism on social media and the comments sections of mainstream media in the UK, France and Germany. The project is carried out by a research team at the Centre for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA, TU Berlin) in collaboration with HTW Berlin, HateLab in Cardiff, and King’s College London.

In this online talk hosted by the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism, members of the Decoding Antisemitism project will present the findings from their latest ‘Discourse Report,’ which assesses the antisemitic reactions triggered online by recent news stories such as Kanye West’s conspiratorial tweets and statements, and anti-Israel incidents at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The talk will present the specific antisemitic stereotypes and conspiracy theories fuelled by such incidents, and the subsequent fall-out online. The event will also include a discussion of new developments in the potentials and pitfalls in the use of AI to deal with the challenge of antisemitism online, presented by our collaborators from the HTW (University of Applied Sciences) in Berlin.
