The Applied Linguistics and English Language team includes scholars with a range of teaching expertise and research interests including, but not limited to, topics such as academic literacies, teacher education, English as a medium of instruction, and language in society. The team has expertise in a wide scope of research methods, including ethnography, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, and interactional linguistics

The role 

The lecturer will contribute to the maintenance of undergraduate distance learning modules. They will be expected to work with others to deliver, maintain, and update existing modules covering a range of curriculum areas in the field of English Language Studies, primarily focused on social perspectives on language issues. They will also undertake high quality research, working independently and in collaboration with other members of the school.

Skills and experience

  • The successful candidate will have a PhD in the field of applied linguistics and/or English language and an emerging research profile, commensurate to career stage.
  • The candidate will also have the ability to write materials for students studying at a distance in, and outside of, their immediate area of expertise.
  • They will have an understanding of supported open and distance learning and an ability to write clearly and cogently.
  • The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly and collaboratively with others.
