Knowledge production in a hybrid age: Contemporary and historical perspectives on producing textbooks and digital educational media

There is no teaching without media. But what do we know about decision-making processes on what is included in these media, how they are designed, and how they shape what future generations are to know about the world? Today’s schools are media-rich environments, from traditional paper textbooks to interactive digital textbooks and further media including open educational resources (OER). The increasing appearance of new educational technology in today’s classrooms makes it imperative to rethink classic questions about knowledge production in schools.

We are organizing the International Conference on Multicultural Democracy. The conference will take place in Fukuoka, Japan on May 11-12, 2018. Now we call for papers and posters for the conference. If you are interested in joining the conference and meeting other scholars and graduate students working on multicultural democracy, please visit the conference website and send an abstract of no more than 500 words via submission form. There’s a limited number of travel grants available too! No registration fee is required. We are looking forward to receiving your abstracts.​

Discourse, Power, Resistance annual conference

The 9th conference in the ‘Discourse, Power, Resistance’ (DPR) series – whose official journal is Power and Education - will be held at the School of Education and Training, University of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom, between 30 March and 1 April, 2010.

The venue is part of a world heritage site laid out in the late 17th and early 18th Centuries by Sir Christopher Wren and his successors. The conference will use the King William Building and the Stephen Lawrence Building.

Over the past decade, the rise of populist democracies in South America has taken place against a backdrop of growing corporate media opposition. The legitimacy of the governments of Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador, and to a certain extent, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay has been questioned most harshly, not by elected oppositional political parties, but by media conglomerates acting as de facto powers.
