Deliberately or not, every writer stages him- or herself, stylistically, by linguistic and encyclopaedic competence or beliefs, or by generic, thematic or editorial choices. The image that the writer constructs of him- or herself and the way this image is received by the reader is essential to the success and the reception of the text.

Das Tagungsnetzwerk ‚Diskurs – interdisziplinär‘ bietet ein Forum, auf dem Vertreterinnen und Vertreter der Linguistik, Soziologie, Politologie, Philosophie, Literaturwissenschaft, Geschichtswissenschaft und anderer kultur- und wissensanalytisch arbeitender Wissenschaften die Perspektive ‚Diskurs‘ je fachspezifisch und fachübergreifend, disziplinär und transdisziplinär, reflektieren und diskutieren.
Die "Gießener Methoden-Werkstatt Bildung, Kultur, Gesellschaft" (GiMeBildung) besteht aus einem Zusammenschluss von Lehrenden des Instituts für Erziehungswissenschaft (Prof. Dr. Ingrid Miethe und Prof. Dr. Christine Wiezorek) des Instituts für Soziologie (Prof. Dr. Thomas Brüsemeister) und des Instituts für Schulpädagogik und Didaktik der Sozialwissenschaften (Prof. Dr. Jochen Wissinger) im Fachbereich 03 Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften.
While ‘discourse’ has long been an object of investigation in various disciplines, the contours of a new transdisciplinary field of research are now coming to the fore: Discourse Studies. Discourse Studies comprises numerous strands and approaches which deal with the social production of meaning at the intersection of language and society.
THis is a special issue in sociology and it provides wide-ranging, comprehensive coverage of current thought and practice in all allied branches of sociology and social policy, and particularly welcomes submissions from those working in business and management studies with an interest in sociological and social policy issues.

Die Diskursanalyse hat sich in der geschichtswissenschaftlichen Diskussion soweit etabliert, dass sie in ihre Bewährungsphase eingetreten ist. Diskurshistorische Ansätze müssen nun sowohl in theoretisch-methodischer Hinsicht als auch in der empirischen Arbeit ihre Fähigkeit unter Beweis stellen, neue Fragen generieren und etablierte Problemstellungen auf andere Weise beantworten zu können.

Immer wieder haben wir es mit Dokumenten, Texten bzw. schriftlichen Daten zu tun, wenn wir empirische Forschung in den Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften betreiben. Diese Forschungswerkstatt wird einen kompakten Einblick in Methoden für die Analyse von sprachlich-textuellem Material geben. Ausgehend von dem Problem, dass Texte auf vielfältige Weise interpretiert werden können und Interpretation immer subjektiv ist, werden wir hier verschiedene Typen von Methoden vorstellen: mikroanalytische und makroanalytische, quantitative, qualitative und computergestützte Methoden.
The interdisciplinary conference aims to open up the interrelation between cities and infectious disease as a focal point of interest for the social, medical and political sciences. We encourage contributions from diverse disciplines such as anthropology, geography, STS, sociology, public health, political science or history.
