Dr. Juan del Valle Rojas is currently the Head of the Department of Languages in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Universidad Católica de Temuco (Chile). After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Certification in English Teaching at the Universidad Católica de Temuco (Chile), he obtained a Master’s Degree in Science Communication at the Universidad de La Frontera (Chile). He received his PhD from the Graduate School for the Humanities at the University of Groningen (Netherlands). He is a Member and Research Fellow of the Chilean Association for Communication Research (INCOM-Chile), the Theme Grupo Discourse and Social Protest (GIDYP) of the Centre of Discourse Studies (Barcelona, Spain), and the Theme Group Data Science, Culture & Social Change of the Research Centre for the Study of Democratic and Politics (DemCP, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). His research primarily focuses on communication studies, emphasizing discourse and power in the contexts of media manipulation and propaganda employing an interdisciplinary approach and the theory and applications of critical discourse analysis, with a particular focus on digital news media.
