A message from Team 1:
Dear DiscourseNet members,
As you may know, we are running for election as the new legal representatives of DiscourseNet.
Therefore, we have produced a short roadmap with a few points that should help to consolidate our association.
Following the spirit of collaborative work and flat hierarchies of DiscourseNet, this “program” is meant to be the basis for discussion and guidance of the activities for the future board. We hope many members of the current board will be active again in the next one and we will be able to find new board members for new challenges. This roadmap is not set in stone, but a work in progress: we are always open for fresh ideas from all DiscourseNet members.
Our ideas are divided into four topics: Improvement of the structures of DiscourseNet, communication strategies, financial strategies and recruitment strategies.
In the next two years we would like to improve the structures of DiscourseNet by
- facilitating the communication with and within the DN-groups,
- sharing the responsibility for all functions of the legal representatives and of the board,
- creating a working group for internationalization and networking, and
- making all current and previous DN documents easily accessible for all board members.
Furthermore, we want to foster the internal and external communication of DiscourseNet by
- creating a bi-monthly newsletter,
- generating a moderated email-list for all members,
- elaborating a clear social media strategy including all those who are organizing DN-events, and
- creating a communication strategy to help new members to become more active within DiscourseNet.
In order to secure the economic stability of DiscourseNet (especially the web-page), we will
- offer a solidarity membership for 60 Euros,
- analyze the possibilities for crowdfunding of some DiscourseNet activities,
- contribute in the application for a COST project in order to create a European Network of discourse researchers, and
- help and provide arguments for all DN-members that want to relate their grant applications to our association.
In order to make our association more attractive for new members, we would like to
- address especially early-career members by developing a 3 to 5-day online course “Introduction into Discourse Studies”,
- create a oneDrive with videos from our different events and link them into the website for DN-members only,
- support low threshold online offers such as the reading groups also for non-members, and
- reframe our website in order to differentiate clearly between users and members and to highlight the advantages of becoming a DiscourseNet member.
