Call Special Anniversary Issue Journal for Discourse Studies

Dear Colleagues,

In March 2023, the bilingual interdisciplinary Journal for Discourse Studies will celebrate its tenth anniversary. Therefore, we would like to publish a special issue that deviates from the usual format. This special issue will contain contributions from different disciplines that deal in essayistic, (time-)diagnostic, critical and perspectival ways with the question where discourse research stands today (depending on the discipline and interdisciplinary work), what it has achieved, where there have been failures, what challenges it faces, and so on. This can be discussed in terms of theory or in terms of methodologies and methods, as well as in terms of the analysis of specific subject areas (environment, inequality, migration, gender, materiality, space). It also includes contributions from neighboring fields or fields closely related to discourse research, such as dispositional research, subjectivation research, etc. All varieties of discourse analysis are welcome. We would especially like to encourage colleagues from non-European contexts to contribute their reflections. Contributions should preferably be written in English or German. They can address one of the following questions:

  • General evaluative or prospective reflections on discourse research, its approaches, and thematic achievements;
  • Different generational views on the development of discourse research and what is currently on the agenda;
  • Views from different continents and linguistic contexts on the approaches and challenges of discourse research, on its thematic settings and needs, as well as its respective possibilities (and also limitations) with regard to specific research contexts;
  • A topic of your choice that seems to be of high relevance.

We ask for your proposal in English or German in the form of a one-page abstract (2500 characters, pdf format) with title, brief explanation and your contact details to the following address by September 10, 2022: zfd@phil.uni-augsburg.de (Keyword: special anniversary issue 2023).

Notifications of acceptance will be sent by September 30. The final contribution of 15.000-25.000 characters must be submitted by December 20, 2022. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Reiner Keller, Werner Schneider, Wolf J. Schünemann & Willy Viehöver
