Open DiscourseNet Seminar with Rick Iedema this Friday

Dear all

we would cordially like to invite you to our next Open DiscourseNet Seminar on Friday, April 29, 2022, 10-11am (London time). We will hear Professor Rick Iedema, from King's College London, with an exciting theoretical talk titled 'Affects, discourses'. Please note the earlier than usual time. 

In the talk, Iedema will delve into affect as descriptor of specific aspects of life. In doing so, he will address Wetherell's concept of 'affective practice' and rehearse Martin's, Ley's and Mazzarella's critiques  of affect as unqualified, autonomous energy. Iedema next poses the following question: if some scholars insist on life as meaningful 'all the way down', and others prioritise (politically, analytically) the undifferentiated force that is life before it gets entangled with secular agendas, everyday discourses and individual identities, what route is best to make sense of situations that don't make sense; ones where we experience a loss of meaning?
