DiscourseNet was founded as the International Association for Discourse Studies in Paris in September 2019, with three Representatives (President, Secretary, Treasurer). Johannes Angermuller was elected as the founding President, Jaspal Singh as Secretary and Luciana Radut-Gaghi as Treasurer. In October 2021 new Representatives were elected with Benno Herzog as President, Aurora Fragonara as Secretary, and Michael Kranert as Treasurer. In 2023, after two years, their first term came to an end. After changes agreed in the General Assembly, elections are now held every three years for a three-year period.
The most recent team was re-elected with Benno Herzog as President, Aurora Fragonara as Secretary, and Michael Kranert as Treasurer. They have been elected for a three-year period from 1.1.2024 to 31.12.2026.
31% of all eligible voters voted, with 82 votes in favour, two against and three abstentions. Two members of the extended DiscourseNet community, who are not in the current board, independently confirmed the results.
All DiscourseNet Association members were invited to participate in the DiscourseNet (Association) elections:
- First, all members were invited to propose a team of Representatives that would stand for the election. Each candidate team should comprise three candidates: One each for President, Treasurer and Secretary. (The final deadline for all candidate teams to submit their intention to run for President, Treasurer and Secretary was 14 August 2023. One team of Reps stood for election.)
- Second, everyone was invited to express interest in joining the future DiscourseNet Board, which is appointed by the elected Representatives. The Board also has a term of three years. Previous Board members may, of course, continue in the Board. Interested persons were invited to contact the running candidate team directly.
- Third, all members were encouraged to attend the (online) General Assembly (GA) at 12 noon (CET) on Fri 17 November 2023. Voting commenced during the GA. To ensure broad participation across timezones, voting remained open until 23:59 (CET) on Fri 24 November 2023.
- Eligible members who were unable to vote during that week, could appoint a proxy for their vote by contacting Felicitas Macgilchrist (at email@example.com).
The election was held online using the balotilo.org election service. During the General Assembly, the current Board reported on their past term and presented their programme for reelection. A recording of the key information was made available online. Each registered member received an individual email from the secure election platform (balotilo.org). Each individual email included one individual link that can be used to vote once.
You can find further details about the running team's proposals for their second term here and in the document below.
As election officer, Felicitas Macgilchrist (at firstname.lastname@example.org) coordinated the election.
Thanks to everyone for your participation!
