My name is Marie Jacobs and I am a PhD student, affiliated with the department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication at Ghent University (Belgium). I work under the supervision of Prof. dr. Katrijn Maryns. My research interests include qualitative methodologies, language in institutional settings, gender and diversity studies and multilingual education. My PhD project deals with the relationship between language and legal counselling and looks at the interactions between asylum seekers and their legal support in Belgium. For this purpose, I collect data by means of ethnographic fieldwork, observation, interviews and audio-recordings at Flemish law firms.
