We are pleased to announce that the eighth Corpus Linguistics in the South event is going to take place on Saturday, 15 November 2014 at the University of Reading.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers who use the tools and approaches of Corpus Linguistics to study communication in online environments especially social media sites and interactive online and comment forums. We invite papers which:

• look at the interplay of public/hegemonic and private/grassroots discourse in social media and online forums that feature voices of ‘ordinary people’
• deal with methodological questions of mining and annotating data from online and social media platforms
• present case studies based on corpora of social media and online interactive communication
• discuss specific linguistic features, practices and phenomena of social media and online interactive communication

Papers should be 30 min plus 15 min for discussion. Please send your abstracts to s.jaworska@reading.ac.uk by 3rd October 2014. Acceptance of submitted abstracts will be notified mid October 2014.

The event will be free and open to all, but we will ask participants to register via email since the number of places is limited.
Best wishes
