We invite submissions for extended abstracts for a thematic panel, “Removing the Mask: Decoloniality in the 21st Century,” to be held during the annual meetings of the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) in Chicago on August 21-23, 2015. This year, the conference theme is Removing the Mask, Lifting the Veil: Race, Class, and Gender in the 21st Century. We invite all scholars, of any level, to submit papers that contain empirical research or theoretical innovations addressing continued legacies of historical colonialism, new forms of neocolonialism and/or decolonial movements as we remove the mask and identify how and why coloniality continues to inform sociological phenomena in the the 21st century. We especially encourage scholars examining these issues in South America, the Antilles, and Africa as well as those using interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives and methodologies to submit their papers. We will also consider works in progress.

The deadline is midnight on January 31, 2015. Please be sure to note that you are submitting to Session Number 97, organized by Melissa F. Weiner and Antonio Carmona Baez. Feel free to contact the organizers at any time with any questions at either mfweiner@holycross.edu or antonio.carmona@upr.edu

Abstracts can be submitted online via: http://www.sssp1.org/index.cfm/m/611/fuseaction/ssspsession2.callForPap…
