1st DiscourseNet Newsletter July 2018 Dear users of discourseanalysis.net, Our webpage has been online for around ten years now. With 5000 registered users, it testifies to the numerous activities in Discourse Studies. Run by DiscourseNet, the webpage will now undergo some important changes in the next few weeks. It will migrate to a new, drupal-based platform by September.
We would also like to announce that a Temporary Board for DiscourseNet has been created. The Board is to maintain and develop the webpage, help organize our future events and work towards creating an association in the future. In January, a number of participants from past DiscourseNet events expressed their interest in a temporary DiscourseNet Board (see the goals and objectives in the invitation sent around last December: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18eLG8o1gXMr0u3avJgZTALJVKwCIhjZ3QQB9UzTNW4k/edit). The Temporary DiscourseNet Board has been active since February and consists of 20 members (see below). The Board has registered support for exploring the creation of a new International Association of Discourse Studies, with transparent structures and democratic bodies for decision-making and advancing academic projects. We are therefore in the process of drafting a Charta, which specifies our missions and principles and the new organisational structure. We hope the Charta can be adopted at our DNC3ALED Congress in Paris 2019 (http://dnc3aled.discourseanalysis.net). The Board will then be formally elected by members of DiscourseNet. As a user of the webpage you are invited to express your opinions and ideas by contacting the members of the Board. You can get in touch with us by email, by commenting on our shared online documents (such as the one above) or talking to us during DiscourseNet events. We will keep informing you about the evolution of DiscourseNet.
The Board have been working on migrating the old website to a new platform in collaboration with two professional programmers. We aim to maintain the multilingual and diverse character of our internet presence. We expect the transition to be challenging and we will have to help each other to make the process as smooth as possible. The webpages for ongoing events may not be available for a few days in September. As soon as the new website goes live, we will notify you. You will find our new Privacy Statement on the webpage. We thank you for your interest in DiscourseNet. In the future, you will receive messages from DiscourseNet through Jaspal Singh, who does the communications in the Steering Group. If you have any questions or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
